About Us
Background
Before Secret Gardening, Katy taught EAL children in a Brent primary school for 11 years and Emma spent over 25 years as an Administrator and PR Consultant in the commercial sector and more recently worked in school administration. We were both keen to pursue a more creative career outdoors in gardening.
Coming from enthusiastic gardening families and being avid gardeners ourselves, we have tended our own gardens for years. We are both RHS qualified having studied RHS Level 2 Principles of Horticulture at Regent’s Park’s Capel Manor College.
This qualification has provided us with a sound grounding in plant science, classification, nutrition, health and propagation and also plant design and planning, establishment and maintenance, fruit and vegetable growing and the protected environment. Katy has now also achieved the Level 3 Diploma in Garden and Planting Design.
Equipped with all this theory and practical knowledge, not to mention hundreds of Latin plant names, we launched Secret Gardening…
Why Secret Gardening?
We discovered we both loved ‘The Secret Garden’ as children and feel it encapsulates a certain magic around green spaces. With this in mind, we want to enhance our clients’ gardens as much as possible, making them more beautiful and accessible.
